Transliteration: Walaqad atayna dawooda wasulaymana AAilman waqala alhamdu lillahi allathee faddalana AAala katheerin min AAibadihi almumineena
(On the other hand,) We gave knowledge to David and Solomon, and they said, "Praise is for Allah Who exalted us above many of His believing servants."

Transliteration: Wawaritha sulaymanu dawooda waqala ya ayyuha alnnasu AAullimna mantiqa alttayri waooteena min kulli shayin inna hatha lahuwa alfadlu almubeenu
And Solomon succeeded David, and he said, "O people, we have been taught the speech of the birds, and we have been granted all sorts of things. This is indeed a great favor (of Allah)."

Transliteration: Wahushira lisulaymana junooduhu mina aljinni waalinsi waalttayri fahum yoozaAAoona
For Solomon were gathered hosts of jinn and men and birds, which were kept under strict discipline.

Transliteration: Hatta itha ataw AAala wadi alnnamli qalat namlatun ya ayyuha alnnamlu odkhuloo masakinakum la yahtimannakum sulaymanu wajunooduhu wahum la yashAAuroona
(Once he was marching in an expedition with them) until when they came to the valley of the ants, an ant said, "O ants, get into your holes lest Solomon and his hosts should trample you down without even knowing it."

Transliteration: Fatabassama dahikan min qawliha waqala rabbi awziAAnee an ashkura niAAmataka allatee anAAamta AAalayya waAAala walidayya waan aAAmala salihan tardahu waadkhilnee birahmatika fee AAibadika alssaliheena
Hearing its words, Solomon laughed smilingly and said "O My Lord, restrain me so that I may render thanks to Thee for Thy favors which Thou hast bestowed upon the and my parents, and (enable me) to do such good works as may please Thee; and admit me, by Thy mercy, among Thy righteous servants."

Transliteration: Watafaqqada alttayra faqala ma liya la ara alhudhuda am kana mina alghaibeena
(On another occasion) Solomon reviewed his birds and said, "How is it that I do not see the hoopoe? Has he disappeared somewhere?

Transliteration: LaoAAaththibannahu AAathaban shadeedan aw laathbahannahu aw layatiyannee bisultanin mubeenin
I will punish him severely, or even slaughter him, unless he presents before me a reasonable excuseâ€

Transliteration: Famakatha ghayra baAAeedin faqala ahattu bima lam tuhit bihi wajituka min sabain binabain yaqeenin
The bird did not take long when it came and said, "I have obtained knowledge of things of which you have no knowledge. I have brought sure information about Saba.

Transliteration: Innee wajadtu imraatan tamlikuhum waootiyat min kulli shayin walaha AAarshun AAatheemun
There I have seen a woman ruling over her people: she has been given all sorts of provisions, and she has a splendid throne.

Transliteration: Wajadtuha waqawmaha yasjudoona lilshshamsi min dooni Allahi wazayyana lahumu alshshaytanu aAAmalahum fasaddahum AAani alssabeeli fahum la yahtadoona
I saw that she and her people prostrate themselves before the sun instead of Allah." Satan made their deeds seem fair to them, and hindered them from the highway: therefore, they do not find the right path

Transliteration: Alla yasjudoo lillahi allathee yukhriju alkhabaa fee alssamawati waalardi wayaAAlamu ma tukhfoona wama tuAAlinoona
that they may prostrate themselves before that God Who brings to light the hidden things of the heavens and the earth and knows all that you conceal and reveal.

Transliteration: Allahu la ilaha illa huwa rabbu alAAarshi alAAatheemi
Allah: none but He is worthy of worship. He is the Owner of the glorious Throne.

Transliteration: Qala sananthuru asadaqta am kunta mina alkathibeena
Solomon said, "We shall just now see whether what you say is true, or that you are a liar.

Transliteration: Ithhab bikitabee hatha faalqih ilayhim thumma tawalla AAanhum faonthur matha yarjiAAoona
Take this letter of mine and cast it before them; then get aside and see what reaction they show."

Transliteration: Qalat ya ayyuha almalao innee olqiya ilayya kitabun kareemun
The queen said, "O chiefs, a very important letter has been cast before me.

Transliteration: Innahu min sulaymana wainnahu bismi Allahi alrrahmani alrraheemi
It is from Solomon, and it begins with the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate.

Transliteration: Alla taAAloo AAalayya watoonee muslimeena
It says, `Do not adopt a rebellious attitude against me and present yourselves as Muslims before me."
