Transliteration: Waotlu AAalayhim nabaa ibraheema
And tell them the story of Abraham

Transliteration: Ith qala liabeehi waqawmihi ma taAAbudoona
when he asked his father and his people: "What are these things that you worship?"

Transliteration: Qaloo naAAbudu asnaman fanathallu laha AAakifeena
They answered, "These are idols which we worship and we serve them devotedly."

Transliteration: Qala hal yasmaAAoonakum ith tadAAoona
Abraham asked, "Do they hear you when you call on them?

Transliteration: Aw yanfaAAoonakum aw yadurroona
Or ' do they bring any good or harm to you?"

Transliteration: Qaloo bal wajadna abaana kathalika yafAAaloona
They replied, "No, but we have found our elders doing the same."

Transliteration: Qala afaraaytum ma kuntum taAAbudoona
At this, Abraham said, "Have you ever seen (with open eyes) the things?

Transliteration: Antum waabaokumu alaqdamoona
which you and your elders have been worshiping?

Transliteration: Fainnahum AAaduwwun lee illa rabba alAAalameena
They are all enemies to me, except One Lord of the worlds,

Transliteration: Allathee khalaqanee fahuwa yahdeeni
Who created me, then He it is Who guides me,

Transliteration: Waallathee huwa yutAAimunee wayasqeeni
Who gives me food and drink,

Transliteration: Waitha maridtu fahuwa yashfeeni
and Who gives me health when 1 am ill,

Transliteration: Waallathee yumeetunee thumma yuhyeeni
Who will cause me to die and then will give me life again,

Transliteration: Waallathee atmaAAu an yaghfira lee khateeatee yawma alddeeni
and of Whom I expect that He will forgive me my errors on the Day of Judgment."

Transliteration: Rabbi hab lee hukman waalhiqnee bialssaliheena
(After. this Abraham prayed:) "My Lord, bestow upon me knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous,

Transliteration: WaijAAal lee lisana sidqin fee alakhireena
and grant me true renown among posterity,

Transliteration: WaijAAalnee min warathati jannati alnnaAAeemi
and include me among the inheritors of the blissful Garden,

Transliteration: Waighfir liabee innahu kana mina alddalleena
and forgive my father, for indeed he is from among those who have strayed,

Transliteration: Wala tukhzinee yawma yubAAathoona
and do not disgrace me on the Day when everybody will be raised back to life,

Transliteration: Yawma la yanfaAAu malun wala banoona
when neither wealth will avail anybody, nor children,

Transliteration: Illa man ata Allaha biqalbin saleemin
except that one should appear before Allah with a sound heart."

Transliteration: Waozlifati aljannatu lilmuttaqeena
(On that Day) Paradise will be brought close to the righteous,

Transliteration: Waburrizati aljaheemu lilghaweena
and Hell will be set open before the straying ones,

Transliteration: Waqeela lahum ayna ma kuntum taAAbudoona
and they will be asked: "Where are those whom you worshiped

Transliteration: Min dooni Allahi hal yansuroonakum aw yantasiroona
instead of Allah? Are they of any help to you, or even to themselves ?"

Transliteration: Fakubkiboo feeha hum waalghawoona
Then these deities and those erring people, will be hurled into it,

Transliteration: Wajunoodu ibleesa ajmaAAoona
and the hosts of Satan, one upon the other.

Transliteration: Qaloo wahum feeha yakhtasimoona
Therein they will dispute with one another, and these erring people will say (to their deities): "

Transliteration: TaAllahi in kunna lafee dalalin mubeenin
By God! We had certainly strayed

Transliteration: Ith nusawweekum birabbi alAAalameena
when we held you equal in rank with the Lord of the worlds,

Transliteration: Wama adallana illa almujrimoona
and they were criminals indeed who led us astray.

Transliteration: Fama lana min shafiAAeena
Now we have neither any intercessor

Transliteration: Wala sadeeqin hameemin
nor any true friend.

Transliteration: Falaw anna lana karratan fanakoona mina almumineena
Would that we were given a chance to return (to the world) so that we became believers.

Transliteration: Inna fee thalika laayatan wama kana aktharuhum mumineena
Indeed there is a great Sign in this, but most of these people would not believe.

Transliteration: Wainna rabbaka lahuwa alAAazeezu alrraheemu
The fact is that your Lord is Mighty as well as Merciful.
