Transliteration: Ya maAAshara aljinni waalinsi alam yatikum rusulun minkum yaqussoona AAalaykum ayatee wayunthiroonakum liqaa yawmikum hatha qaloo shahidna AAala anfusina wagharrathumu alhayatu alddunya washahidoo AAala anfusihim annahum kanoo kafireena
(On that occasion Allah will ask them this question also:) "O race of jinn and men, did not the Messengers come to you from among yourselves, who recited My Revelations to you and warned you of the consequences you shall meet with on this Day?" They will reply, "Yes, they did. We bear witness against ourselves. "Today this worldly life has deluded them, but at that time, they will themselves bear witness against their selves that they were disbelievers.

Transliteration: Thalika an lam yakun rabbuka muhlika alqura bithulmin waahluha ghafiloona
(This testimony will be taken from them in order to prove that) your Lord would not destroy the habitations unjustly, while their dwellers were ignorant of the Reality.

Transliteration: Walikullin darajatun mimma AAamiloo wama rabbuka bighafilin AAamma yaAAmaloona
The grade of everyone (for recompense) is determined in accordance with his deeds: and your Lord is not unaware of the deeds of the people.

Transliteration: Warabbuka alghaniyyu thoo alrrahmati in yasha yuthhibkum wayastakhlif min baAAdikum ma yashao kama anshaakum min thurriyyati qawmin akhareena
Your Lord is All-Sufficient and is full of compassion. If He wills, He may remove you and replace you by whomever He wills, just as He raised you from the offspring of other people.

Transliteration: Inna ma tooAAadoona laatin wama antum bimuAAjizeena
Indeed, the thing which you are being promised shall most surely come; and you have no power to frustrate Allah.

Transliteration: Qul ya qawmi iAAmaloo AAala makanatikum innee AAamilun fasawfa taAAlamoona man takoonu lahu AAaqibatu alddari innahu la yuflihu alththalimoona
O Muhammad, say, "O people, you may do whatever you like in your own way and I am doing whatever I deem right; but you shall soon know who comes out successful in the end; anyhow the fact is that the workers of iniquity can never attain true success."

Transliteration: WajaAAaloo lillahi mimma tharaa mina alharthi waalanAAami naseeban faqaloo hatha lillahi bizaAAmihim wahatha lishurakaina fama kana lishurakaihim fala yasilu ila Allahi wama kana lillahi fahuwa yasilu ila shurakaihim saa ma yahkumoona
These people have assigned a portion to Allah out of the tillage and the cattle He Himself has created, and say, "This is for Allah," so presume they "and this is for the partners we have set up with Him." Then the portion assigned to the partners of their own making does not reach Allah, but that assigned to Allah reaches the partners set up by them. What evil decisions they make!

Transliteration: Wakathalika zayyana likatheerin mina almushrikeena qatla awladihim shurakaohum liyurdoohum waliyalbisoo AAalayhim deenahum walaw shaa Allahu ma faAAaloohu fatharhum wama yaftaroona
And likewise, those whom the mushrikin believe to have a share in Allahs Godhead have made the killing of their own children seem fair to them in order to lead them to ruin and confuse them in their religion. Had Allah willed, they would not have done so; therefore, leave them busy in their false accusations.

Transliteration: Waqaloo hathihi anAAamun waharthun hijrun la yatAAamuha illa man nashao bizaAAmihim waanAAamun hurrimat thuhooruha waanAAamun la yathkuroona isma Allahi AAalayha iftiraan AAalayhi sayajzeehim bima kanoo yaftaroona
They say, these cattle and crops are reserved; only those people can eat them, whom we allow. In fact, this is a restriction they themselves have imposed. Then there are some animals which have been forbidden for riding and carrying loads, and there are other animals over which they do not pronounce the name of Allah. They have falsely attributed all this to Allah before long Allah will recompense them for all that they have falsely attributed to Him.

Transliteration: Waqaloo ma fee butooni hathihi alanAAami khalisatun lithukoorina wamuharramun AAala azwajina wain yakun maytatan fahum feehi shurakao sayajzeehim wasfahum innahu hakeemun AAaleemun
And they say, "Whatever is within the bellies of these cattle is reserved for our males and forbidden to our females, but if it is dead, both may partake of it. Allah will surely recompense them for the things they have fabricated; indeed, He is All Wise, All Knowing.

Transliteration: Qad khasira allatheena qataloo awladahum safahan bighayri AAilmin waharramoo ma razaqahumu Allahu iftiraan AAala Allahi qad dalloo wama kanoo muhtadeena
Most surely they became losers, who, in their folly and ignorance killed their own children, and made unlawful what Allah had provided them as sustenance falsely ascribing prohibitions to Allah. Surely they went astray and were not at all rightly guided.

Transliteration: Wajaa almuAAaththiroona mina alaAArabi liyuthana lahum waqaAAada allatheena kathaboo Allaha warasoolahu sayuseebu allatheena kafaroo minhum AAathabun aleemun
And many from among the Bedouins90 also came with their excuses that they, too, might be allowed to remain behind: thus stayed behind those who had made a false compact of Faith with Allah and His Messenger. In the near future those from among the Bedouins who adopted the way of unbelief91 shall meet with a painful chastisement.

Transliteration: Laysa AAala aldduAAafai wala AAala almarda wala AAala allatheena la yajidoona ma yunfiqoona harajun itha nasahoo lillahi warasoolihi ma AAala almuhsineena min sabeelin waAllahu ghafoorun raheemun
There is no harm if the weak, the sick and those that have no means of providing for Jihad stay behind, provided they are sincerely faithful to Allah and His Messenger.92 There is no cause of blame against such righteous people: and Allah is Forgiving and Compassionate.

Transliteration: Wala AAala allatheena itha ma atawka litahmilahum qulta la ajidu ma ahmilukum AAalayhi tawallaw waaAAyunuhum tafeedu mina alddamAAi hazanan alla yajidoo ma yunfiqoona
Likewise there can be no ground for criticizing those people who came to you in person and requested you to provide them with mounts. For when you said to them, "I am unable to provide you with mounts, they returned with heavy hearts, their eyes overflowing with tears: they were filled with sorrow that they had no means of going forth for Jihad at their own expense.

Transliteration: Innama alssabeelu AAala allatheena yastathinoonaka wahum aghniyao radoo bian yakoonoo maAAa alkhawalifi watabaAAa Allahu AAala quloobihim fahum la yaAAlamoona
However, the conduct of those who are well-to-do and still ask for exemption from Jihad, is indeed very objectionable. As such people chose to stay behind with women, Allah set a seal upon their hearts: therefore now they do not know anything (about the consequences they shall incur in Allahs court).

Transliteration: YaAAtathiroona ilaykum itha rajaAAtum ilayhim qul la taAAtathiroo lan numina lakum qad nabbaana Allahu min akhbarikum wasayara Allahu AAamalakum warasooluhu thumma turaddoona ila AAalimi alghaybi waalshshahadati fayunabbiokum bima kuntum taAAmaloona
When you return to them, they will apologize to you, offering many sorts of excuses: but say to them plainly, "Make no excuses: we will not believe in anything you say for Allah has revealed to us the whole truth about you. Now Allah and His Messenger will keep a watch over your conduct: then you shall return to Him Who knows all that is visible and hidden, and He will tell you all that you have been doing. "

Transliteration: Sayahlifoona biAllahi lakum itha inqalabtum ilayhim lituAAridoo AAanhum faaAAridoo AAanhum innahum rijsun wamawahum jahannamu jazaan bima kanoo yaksiboona
On your return they will take solemn oaths by Allah to reassure you, so that you may turn away from theta. So turn away from them because they are a filth and their real abode is Hell which shall be the recompense of what they have earned.

Transliteration: Yahlifoona lakum litardaw AAanhum fain tardaw AAanhum fainna Allaha la yarda AAani alqawmi alfasiqeena
They will take solemn oaths before you to satisfy you, but even if you accept their excuses. Allah will never accept the excuses of the evil-doers.

Transliteration: AlaAArabu ashaddu kufran wanifaqan waajdaru alla yaAAlamoo hudooda ma anzala Allahu AAala rasoolihi waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun
These Bedouins are most stubborn in unbelief and hypocrisy, and, in all probability, will remain ignorant of the laws of the Way which Allah has sent down to His Messenger: and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Transliteration: Wamina alaAArabi man yattakhithu ma yunfiqu maghraman wayatarabbasu bikumu alddawaira AAalayhim dairatu alssawi waAllahu sameeAAun AAaleemun
There are such among the Bedouins, who regard what they expend in the Way as a penalty and await some change of fortune to turn against you (so that they should be able to overthrow the government you have imposed on them,) whereas they themselves have been encircled by a vicious circle; and Allah hears everything and knows everything.

Transliteration: Wamina alaAArabi man yuminu biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri wayattakhithu ma yunfiqu qurubatin AAinda Allahi wasalawati alrrasooli ala innaha qurbatun lahum sayudkhiluhumu Allahu fee rahmatihi inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun
But among these Bedouins there are some, who believe in Allah and the Last Day and regard what they expend in the Way as a means of bringing themselves nearer to Allah and of seeking the Messengers prayers for Allahs blessing; yes, this is indeed a means of bringing them nearer to Allah, and Allah will certainly admit them to His blessing; indeed Allah is Forgiving and Compassionate.
