Transliteration: Waothkur fee alkitabi maryama ithi intabathat min ahliha makanan sharqiyyan
And, O Muhammad, relate in this Book the story of Mary: how she had retired in seclusion from her people to the eastern side

Transliteration: Faittakhathat min doonihim hijaban faarsalna ilayha roohana fatamaththala laha basharan sawiyyan
and had hung down a screen to hide herself from them. There We sent to her Our Spirit ("an angel") and he appeared before her in the form of a perfect man.

Transliteration: Qalat innee aAAoothu bialrrahmani minka in kunta taqiyyan
Mary cried out involuntarily, "I seek God's refuge from you, if you are a pious man."

Transliteration: Qala innama ana rasoolu rabbiki liahaba laki ghulaman zakiyyan
He replied, "I am a mere messenger from your Lord and have been sent to give you a pure son."

Transliteration: Qalat anna yakoonu lee ghulamun walam yamsasnee basharun walam aku baghiyyan
Mary said, "How can I bear a son, when no man has touched me, and I am not an unchaste woman?"

Transliteration: Qala kathaliki qala rabbuki huwa AAalayya hayyinun walinajAAalahu ayatan lilnnasi warahmatan minna wakana amran maqdiyyan
The angel replied, "So shall it be. Your Lord says, `This is an easy thing for Me to do, and We will do so in order to make that boy a Sign for the people and a blessing from Us, and this must happen."

Transliteration: Fahamalathu faintabathat bihi makanan qasiyyan
Accordingly, Mary conceived the child, and with it she went away to a distant place.

Transliteration: Faajaaha almakhadu ila jithAAi alnnakhlati qalat ya laytanee mittu qabla hatha wakuntu nasyan mansiyyan
Then the throes of childbirth urged her to take shelter under a date palm. There she began to cry, "Oh! would that I had died before this and sunk into oblivion.â€

Transliteration: Fanadaha min tahtiha alla tahzanee qad jaAAala rabbuki tahtaki sariyyan
At this the angel at the foot of her bed consoled her, saying, "Grieve not at all, for your Lord has set a spring under you;

Transliteration: Wahuzzee ilayki bijithAAi alnnakhlati tusaqit AAalayki rutaban janiyyan
as for your food, shake the trunk of this tree and fresh, ripe dates will fall down for you;

Transliteration: Fakulee waishrabee waqarree AAaynan faimma tarayinna mina albashari ahadan faqoolee innee nathartu lilrrahmani sawman falan okallima alyawma insiyyan
so eat and drink and refresh your eyes; and if you see a man, say to him, `As I have vowed to observe the fast (of silence) for the sake of the Merciful, I will not speak to anyone today.â€

Transliteration: Faatat bihi qawmaha tahmiluhu qaloo ya maryamu laqad jiti shayan fariyyan
Then she brought the child to her people. They said, “O Mary! This is a heinous sin that you have committed.

Transliteration: Ya okhta haroona ma kana abooki imraa sawin wama kanat ommuki baghiyyan
O sister of Aaron! your father was not a wicked man, nor was your mother an unchaste woman.â€

Transliteration: Faasharat ilayhi qaloo kayfa nukallimu man kana fee almahdi sabiyyan
(In answer to this) Mary merely pointed towards the infant. The people said, “How shall we talk with him, who is but an infant in the cradle?â€

Transliteration: Qala innee AAabdu Allahi ataniya alkitaba wajaAAalanee nabiyyan
Whereupon the child spoke out, "I am a servant of Allah: He has given me the Book and He has appointed me a Prophet,

Transliteration: WajaAAalanee mubarakan ayna ma kuntu waawsanee bialssalati waalzzakati ma dumtu hayyan
and He has made me blessed wherever I may be. He has enjoined upon me to offer Salat and give Zakat so long as I shall live.

Transliteration: Wabarran biwalidatee walam yajAAalnee jabbaran shaqiyyan
He has made me dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me oppressive and hard-hearted.

Transliteration: Waalssalamu AAalayya yawma wulidtu wayawma amootu wayawma obAAathu hayyan
Peace be upon me on the day I was born and peace shall be on me on the day I die and on the day I am raised to life.â€

Transliteration: Thalika AAeesa ibnu maryama qawla alhaqqi allathee feehi yamtaroona
This is Jesus, the son of Mary, and this is the truth about him concerning which they are in doubt.

Transliteration: Ma kana lillahi an yattakhitha min waladin subhanahu itha qada amran fainnama yaqoolu lahu kun fayakoonu
It does not behoove God to beget a son for He is far above this. When He decrees a thing, He only says, "Be", and it does come into being.

Transliteration: Wainna Allaha rabbee warabbukum faoAAbudoohu hatha siratun mustaqeemun
(And Jesus had declared) "Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him; this is the Right Way."

Transliteration: Faikhtalafa alahzabu min baynihim fawaylun lillatheena kafaroo min mashhadi yawmin AAatheemin
But in spite of this, the sects began to have differences among themselves. So those who adopted the ways of disbelief shall suffer a horrible woe, when they witness the Great Day.

Transliteration: AsmiAA bihim waabsir yawma yatoonana lakini alththalimoona alyawma fee dalalin mubeenin
On that Day when they shall appear before Us, their ears and their eyes shall become very sharp, but today these transgressors (neither hear nor see the Truth and) have strayed into manifest deviation.

Transliteration: Waanthirhum yawma alhasrati ith qudiya alamru wahum fee ghaflatin wahum la yuminoona
O Muhammad, now that these people are not paying heed and are not believing, warn them of the horrors of the Day, when judgment shall be passed, and they will have nothing left for them but vain regret.

Transliteration: Inna nahnu narithu alarda waman AAalayha wailayna yurjaAAoona
Ultimately, We will inherit the Earth and all that is on it, and everyone shall be returned to Us.
